Pre-Rolls at Higher Love: What’s Inside and Why It Matters
October 9, 2025Bubble Hash 101: A Beginner's Guide
What is Bubble Hash?
Bubble hash, sometimes referred to as ice water hash, is one of the purest, most traditional forms of cannabis concentrate. The name “bubble” comes from the way high-quality hash bubbles when exposed to heat — an indication of high resin content and purity. But “ice water hash” might actually be the better term, because it tells you exactly how it’s made: with ice, water, and a little bit of patience.
At its core, bubble hash is just loose trichome heads — the resin glands of the cannabis flower where all the cannabinoids, terpenes, and therapeutic magic live. These are separated from the plant material through a gentle washing process, then collected and dried. No solvents, no chemicals — just pure resin, the way nature made it. Bubble hash is one of the most popular forms of solventless concentrates, highlighting purity and flavor without additives.

How is Higher Love Bubble Hash Made?
We start with organically grown, in-house Higher Love flower — because the best hash starts with the best input.
-
Cold Water Wash: The flower is mixed with ice and water in a wash vessel. Cold temperatures are key here — they make the connection between the trichome head and its stalk brittle, so with light agitation, the heads snap off cleanly.
-
Gravity Separation: Trichome heads are denser than water, so they sink while plant matter floats. The water is drained through a stack of micron sieves (also called “bubble bags”), which capture the resin at different size ranges — these are known as “cuts” or “fractions.”
-
Freeze Drying: Once collected, the wet hash is placed in a freeze dryer. This step is critical. It gently removes moisture without applying heat, preserving terpene profiles, preventing microbial growth, and maintaining the loose, sandy consistency we’re after.
Bubble hash is a prime example of a solventless concentrate, created entirely without chemical solvents to maintain purity and potency.
What's in the Jar?
Not all bubble hash makes it to the jar. The cut we jar for shelf sales usually falls between 90 and 119 microns — a sweet spot that typically delivers the most mature, robust trichome heads with minimal plant matter. Every strain and every batch is a little different, but this micron range consistently produces the best:
-
Flavor
-
Melt quality
-
Potency
Trichome stalks or small bits of plant matter and pistils make it through the wash. These can affect how the hash melts and tastes, so we aim to minimize them in our final product.
What's the Deal with Star Ratings?
Bubble hash is often graded using the star system, ranging from 1 to 6 stars. Here's how it breaks down:
-
6-Star (Full Melt): The gold standard. Contains 95%+ resin heads and fully melts into a puddle when dabbed — no residue. Rare, hard to produce, and sensitive to heat and moisture.
-
5-Star: Excellent melt, almost no plant material. May be suitable for dabbing but expect some residue. Topping bowls or adding to a joint is where this will shine.
-
4-Star: Melts well but may leave some residue behind. Still very potent and flavorful. Excellent for topping bowls and infusing joints.
-
1–3 Star: More plant material, less melt. Often used for edibles or traditional hash pressing.
Storage Tips
Bubble hash is delicate and reactive to temperature and humidity. Here’s how to keep it in top shape:
-
Store cold: A refrigerator is usually fine, but a freezer is even better since it’s drier. Just be mindful of condensation.
-
Avoid moisture: If you open a frozen jar in a warm room, water vapor in the air can condense on the cold hash and cause clumping.
-
Let it acclimate: Always allow hash to come to room temperature before opening a cold jar. This prevents moisture intrusion and keeps the texture fluffy and sandy.

What if it Melts?
If your hash melts into a clump, don’t panic — it’s not ruined. Melted hash may lose its sandy texture, but it still retains potency, flavor, and function. You can still use it in a bowl, joint, or even press it into a coin for easy handling. It's just a bit stickier to work with.
Handling Tips
One of the beauties of bubble hash is its versatility. Here are a few of our favorite ways to enjoy it:
Smoke It
-
Sprinkle a little on top of flower in a bowl for a serious potency boost.
-
Mix it into a joint or blunt for a smoother, tastier burn.
-
For higher star hash, you can dab it — just flag it first (melt and press into a thin sheet) for better surface area and even vaporization.
Make Edibles
Bubble hash is a favorite for DIY edibles because:
-
It has less plant taste than traditional flower.
-
Dosing is easier because it’s more potent and consistent.
-
You can skip the decarb step — just infuse directly into oil using machines like the Ardent or Levo.
Bubble hash remains one of the most trusted solventless concentrates for enthusiasts seeking purity, potency, and flavor.

Why Bubble Hash?
At Higher Love, we believe in honoring the art and tradition of solventless concentrates. Bubble hash is:
-
Pure: No solvents, no additives — just water, ice, and flower.
-
Potent: Concentrated cannabinoids and terpenes in their rawest form.
-
Flavorful: Nothing mutes or distorts the strain’s natural terp profile.
-
Versatile: Smoke it, vape it, eat it — your choice.
It’s a labor of love — and we’re proud to offer it.
